Activism and Public Involvement
Fithian’s activism stretches back decades, involving both anti-Israel and anti-government protests. In April 2024, she played a central role in the “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” at Columbia University, instructing protesters on how to barricade themselves in academic buildings after taking them over. Fithian has been a vocal critic of Israel’s policies, participating in multiple campaigns calling for divestment and the end of the blockade on Gaza.

Events and Controversies
During the Columbia encampment, Fithian trained participants in direct action methods, including the use of zip ties to barricade doors. The encampment, which was led by Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), was dismantled by the NYPD after protesters vandalized campus property and took Columbia custodians hostage. More than 100 students were arrested, and Fithian’s role in advising protesters was highlighted in multiple reports.
