Chi-Ming Yang

Chi-Ming Yang is a Professor of English at the University of Pennsylvania and a member of Penn Faculty for Justice in Palestine who was arrested during the closure of the UPenn encampment in May 2024. She and other members of faculty including Charlotte Jacobs were arrested after forming a barricade in an attempt to stop police vans from transporting detained student organizers.

The encampment was closed down after weeks of reported problematic behaviour from participants including harassment of fellow students, vandalism, and incitement to violence. Chi-Ming Yang’s participation in the encampment, and her attempted intervention in the police’s actions undermine American values and those of the university.
