Moira Shoush, a dual degree student at Columbia University and Sciences Po, has been identified as an active participant in pro-Hamas rallies and demonstrations. Shoush’s involvement includes attending a rally in Times Square that celebrated Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attacks and participating in a controversial encampment at Columbia University in April 2024. These actions, marked by endorsements of extremism, have drawn significant criticism for fostering hostility on campus.
Moira Shoush’s Participation in the Pro-Hamas Encampment
On April 26, 2024, Moira Shoush was photographed participating in a pro-Hamas encampment on Columbia’s campus. The encampment, which lasted for weeks, was established as a protest against Israel’s ongoing war with Hamas. Social media posts featuring Shoush from the encampment highlighted anti-Israel rhetoric, including the promotion of the watermelon symbol appropriated by anti-Israel activists to represent Palestinian “resistance.”
During the encampment, protesters engaged in vandalism, forcibly entered university buildings, and destroyed property. Three university custodians were reportedly taken hostage in Hamilton Hall during a demonstration linked to the encampment. An NYPD raid later recovered knives, gas masks, ropes, and anti-Israel propaganda, including violent and incendiary materials calling for the destruction of Jewish and American institutions.
Attending a Rally Supporting Hamas Terror Attacks
On October 8, 2023, Shoush attended the “All Out for Palestine” rally in Times Square, organized by groups including Al-Awda and the American Muslims for Palestine (AMP). The event explicitly supported the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks on Israeli civilians, during which Hamas terrorists executed mass murder, kidnappings, and other war crimes.
At the rally, participants celebrated the violence by stomping on and burning Israeli flags, while speakers glorified Hamas’s actions and called for the destruction of Israel. Chants included violent slogans like “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free” and “There is only one solution: Intifada, revolution!”
